That series 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland never had me as a viewer, and yet I seemed to have picked up a decent chunk of knowledge about it by osmosis. Which is a fancy way to say from The Simpsons. Running alongside their parody there’s another version in my head where the baddies are Travis, plotting to revisit Katy Perry’s Fireworks on Radio 1 LiveLounge. Luckily, I’m on hand to sort this out. The best bit is when I have a Travis, let´s say Dougie, but he’s not revealing his cohorts locations. A Tunnock´s Teacake is dangled in front of him, then whipped away. In such torment, he sings like a wee tartan canary.

As I leave the room, I toss the crumpled Tunnock´s wrapper over my shoulder. Maybe I ate the teacake, or maybe if didn’t. That’s your cliffhanger.

Freud would probably fill his office full of cigar smoke while decoding this, but I think we can put it down very quickly to fear. Fear of ageing among forty something (just) bloggers to be precise. Terrifying though it may be, worrying about the accumulation of decanters, blankets and trips to the tip is dwarfed by the fear that my raggedy old brain will begin hankering for acoustic stuff. Will I become a fan of euphoric pop that has undergone hysterectomy by earnest Fran-a-likes? The whooshes traded for fretboard squeaks, and

the buzz for shortbread.

It´s a horror that brushed close this week when I heard a piano led version of Romy’s Lifetime. That´s really good, I thought. I was rescued from a full on acoustic descent by the impossibility of tracking that version down anywhere. So watch out, here comes the re-invigorating Planningtorock remix instead. If you missed Lifetime first time round, it´s about as euphoric as euphoric pop gets. Romy is from The XX so the deft blend of song writing and winning production is no surprise. Virginia Díaz from Spanish Radio 3 played it the other day and described it as, ´una llamada al leonismo´, a call to lionism. It´s possible that I misheard this but who cares? Put on Lifetime and I defy you not to feel a lionistic surge.

Planningtorock has the track record to show that beefily awesome remixes are not surprise. This one gets everybody hastily driven towards the dancefloor, courtesy of magnetic bassthrob. The whimsy of the original´s choral intro disappears in favour of repeated vocal snippets, while the chorus gets chopped off with the old techno trimmer. No Fran would ever dare to be so brutal.
