Really getting to invent a genre, that would be a sign of any Blogger’s standing. I kind of tried by mentioning Nightbus a few times, but it probably actually exists, so clearly I didn’t invent it. Not really knowing whether a genre is real or you invented it, that is definitely not a sign of standing. Unless standing is a new synonym for idiocy.
No knew genres are being announce today, but there will be the spotting of a pattern – Gallic sounding singers getting remixes off veterans. Last time it was Marie Davidson and Morgan Geist. This time, it is Dawn Richard and Felix Da Housecat. Dawn Richard is pronounced Ri-CHARD not RICH-ard, so that’s where the Gallic bit comes in. There’s quite a fun interview where she explains that this pronunciation is not an affectation, she comes from Haitian decent. I guess we’ve all come across this kind of thing, in my case it was a guy called Gary Broccoli, who did the same thing and made everyone say BroccoLIIII. He never mentioned Haitian descent.
Given Dawn Richard’s history, as part of a TV show girl group, Danity Kane, formed under ‘Sean Puffy’ Combs, the original of Bussifame is a surprisingly heavy house workout, even before Felix and Dave get their claws into it. It seems that Richard’s solo career has seen her grabbing every chance to pull out of her Pop/RnB lane. It´s worth looking into.
The remix does some nice juicy work, concentrating the beefiness and simplifying any ornate chorus touches. Being compelled to bust it for somebody is always a pleasure, in this case getting convinced wouldn´t be tough. You might even feel your inner BroccoLIII coming out.
Also, it clocks in at 2.57, which has got to be a record for a house remix. There´s even a YouTube version at 2.17. Keep your eyes peeled, this could be the beginning of a new wave, Short Trax.
